FinalDrive

This is FinalDrive, a personal love letter to the racing games I grew up playing. Inspired by the likes Ridge Racer Type 4, GTR 98, Max Power Racing, and Destruction Derby 2, this globe trotting racing game has you competing against the clock in short point to point routes.

5 manufacturers across all manner of design sensibilities are at your disposal, with courses set in the likes of Wales, Italy, USA, and more.

This was a little project I began working on after I completed my Masters degree in Game Design. I really wanted to make a racing game, and rediscovering Ridge Racer Type 4 was the catalyst. I wanted to emulate the feeling of driving interesting cars in fascinating places.

It is unfinished. The plan was to have 5 cars for each manufacturer and some 4 courses per location, with 8 locations in total. There's no audio. Some of the cars feel fun, others feel frustrating. I was still feeling things out when other things got in the way. I might return to it, but we'll see.
